If you know me personally (which, at this stage, you probably do), you know I’ve been talking about creating and writing my own newsletter for around a year now.
THE TIME HAS COME!!! This is cosmic gumbo, a newsletter that almost moves to the beat of jazz.
The name comes from a throwaway line in a sketch from season 2, episode 3 of “I Think You Should Leave,” in which Santa Claus (played by Biff Wiff) is the top-billed actor in a blockbuster action movie. He tells the interviewer in the subsequent press junket scene that the movie is “kind of a cosmic gumbo. It almost moves to the beat of jazz.”
In a similar sense, I’m not limiting this project to any one niche because there are so many topics I want to write about and so much that goes un-or under-covered in the media. I think once I get going the through lines will become clearer, but rest assured this publication is nestled somewhere along the intersection of technology, culture and politics.
You can expect to see pieces exploring how the internet influences its users and the offline world, how entities in power mold and use the digital realm, and how rapidly-advancing technology either causes, exacerbates or helps solve societal issues and inequities.
I’ll post a story every so often open to anyone to read and will have weekly blogs, recommendations or short-form pieces for paying subscribers.
If you’ve read this far, I hope you’ll consider supporting me and my work by subscribing.
